Australian Gaming site Big Kid reported this interesting piece of RPG news:
An Australian gamer has spent $26500 to buy a virtual island in online RPG Project Entropia. The gamer, who goes by the moniker Deathifier, said he believed his "investment" would become a trend in online gaming. He intends to sell plots on his island to other players, eventually making a profit. Interestingly, Entropia is run by a Gothenburg company, and insider information suggests they have not payed their employees salaries for the last few months. Despite the health of the game's economy, the real economy could result in it being shutdown and the player's investment lost - a pertinent reminder of the impotence of the virtual when measured against the real. | Source: Big Kid |
