A preview of the sci-fi MMORPG, Face of Mankind is up at Bytesector. Here's a snip:
Face of Mankind sets itself out from the rest by putting a heavy emphasis on story and allowing it to develop dynamically based on the actions of players in the game. Unlike the typical online RPG where one must partake in hundreds of empty tasks just to obtain special items or experience, Face of Mankind makes every mission important. The outcome of any particular mission no matter how large it is can completely change the direction in which the story is headed. The story itself revolves around ten major organizations all with distinctive strengths and weaknesses. The epic background story describes the purpose of each of these organizations and how it fits into the world of Face of Mankind. When a player initially joins the game, he or she will first customize a character and then select which of these organizations to join. The three major types of organizations: government institutions, multinational companies, and clans, all offer completely different styles of play and look to be so diverse that it would almost be like playing three separate games. The government agencies and clans will give those with an itchy trigger finger the chance to dive into a combat situation while the companies will give those who prefer a safer yet more comprehensive gaming situation a chance to test their business prowess. Some players will even be granted the opportunity to do combat with the alien species of which little is known to mankind. Being able to play a game knowing that your own individual actions could change the course of the game should definitely make the game much more enjoyable.
