Gamespy has a preview of Grandia 2 for the PC. If you are into anime-style RPG's, this one sounds very interesting for sure. Personally, i don't dig those cute looking monsters :-), but if gameplay is right, well... - here's a bit from the preview:
For those without knowledge of this game, there's no need to have played the original as they're essentially unconnected. The opening cinematic for Grandia II essentially recreates the end battle from the first game, where Granas and Valmar are fighting to the death. Eventually, Granas (the good guy) uses an incredibly powerful move to destroy Valmar, but this move also opens a hole of sorts on the Silesia continent, into which Valmar is sliced, diced, and sealed.
As with seemingly every seal in every RPG, this evil sewer cover isn't eternal, and there's been rumblings lately that perhaps the seal in the city of Carbo is about to be broken. As Ryudo, your first job is to go apply magical super glue to the seal to prevent what is inevitable; in other words, things go wrong and the game starts in earnest.
Like most modern RPGs, the player will meet others that join the party, with up to four travelers at once. Unlike many RPGs, players are not specialized into classes or traits (i.e., there are no tank, cleric, and mage combinations). Instead, each character can be developed independently and all end up exactly how you want them. The abilities of each are not dependent on predetermined paths, which adds a lot of creativity to how different players handle situations. It's entirely possible for one player to have four tanks, another to have four magic users, and a third to have the "classic" mix.
