Two more playing sessions have been announced for A Tale in the Desert.
I would like to first welcome all the new beta testers that have joined us recently, due to the wonderful preview in GameSpy on Thursday. As all of you will learn, many of our play sessions are announced without much advance notice. These are considered "official" play sessions, and usually last 2-4 hours. Our major "beta sessions" are at least 24 hours long. In addition, we run informal development sessions that are only announced on our IRC channel: #ATITD on irc.stratics.com:6667. Work done by your characters in official sessions is preserved. These unannounced "dev sessions" are not saved.

    The next two sessions are:
    Tonight: 10/23/2001 9:30PM EST until 11:30PM
    Tomorrow: 10/24/2001 6:00PM EST until 10:00PM
UK Testers: London time is 5 hours ahead of EST.

First time players can download the client software from our web site: http://www.ataleinthedesert.com
A great guide for new players is at: http://members.home.net/the-oasis/

I've had the greatest time in the last few sessions. A quick summary...
The festival of Geb and Nut concluded with Apophis receiving the gods' blessing. He made 12 out of 15 possible offerings. With this blessing, flax beds planted by Apophis are twice as bountiful - yielding 2 flax per mature bed.

The law barring destruction of the Statue of Octec was repealed, and ramming was at around 16% as the last session ended. The consensus seems to be that Deep Wells, a possible alternative to destroying the statue outright, are too hard to build, given Egypt's current technology level.
A total of eight Mentor Shrines have been built in Egypt. This is an important indication of successful we are at welcoming new players into our community. I know that a number of other mentorships are in progress, and will continue tonight. I would again encourage those who know their way around Egypt to spend some time on the Test of Mentorship. This test can be started at the Great University of Leadership.
One last bit of news... Although this is not part of any scripted story, I have it on good authority that there is a major political shakeup about to occur in Egypt. This will likely take place during one of the next two sessions, and will be announced in-game.
