Here it is, kids, the LAST FREE GAMES ROUND-UP OF 2005!!! I can't believe it's almost been a whole month since this column began. Over the two previous installments we've laughed, we've cried, we've found love... but mostly we've cried. Well, break out your hankies folks, because we're going out in style!
Conquer Online: Didn't get what you wanted for Christmas? Join the club. (I'm still typing this on a TRS-80 with an acoustic coupler.) Don't despair though- you can still get yourself an official Conquer Online t-shirt to wear during those precious few moments when you leave your mom's basement.
Flyff: Flyff players have been suffering from lag and login issues for the past week or so, and it's proving to be a difficult issue for Gala-Net to fix. Interestingly, the problems seem to have coincided with a major update last week that introduced a new player class (Acrobat) and an official Item Shop, in addition to other goodies and (apparently) game-breaking bugs.
Knight Online: The results of last week's inter-server wars have been posted. These events are available to premium users only... just wish I knew what the hell a premium user was. (Try to find out on their site, I dare you!) Also, a patch last week made it so that new character names can only contain alphanumeric characters. Players _Mule, __Mule, and ___Mule were reportedly very distressed by this development.
MapleStory: While some of MapleStory's holiday events have already concluded for the year, players have until January 4 to continue decorating their in-game Christmas trees and enjoying random GM-sponsored events in Lith Harbor and Orbis. GMs will announce the events right when they're about to start, and players must click either the NPCs Jean or Martin to participate.
Monster & Me: The Monster & Me holiday events have already concluded, but the formal announcement offers the following sentiment: "This Christmas is different, for you can stay with Monster&Me Santa and celebrate Christmas with your Monster&Me friends, and sweet lover." Contrary to conventional wisdom, Monster & Me players DO have sweet lovers.
Oz World: In a draconian show of force, the Oz Online team has temporarily suspended several players for using bots in the dog-eat-dog fishing/dating simulator and posted their user names on gore-dripping stakes for all other players to see through flinching eyes.
Project Entropia: A patch deployed early last week brought Project Entropia to version 8.0 and introduced the first stage of the $100,000 USD Club NEVERDIE resort that was in the news a few weeks ago. Also, the 2005 Project Entropia movie contest is over and winners have been announced. You can see the movies by following the link.
Silkroad Online: Ummm. Some Silkroad Online players have been up to no good. The servers are currently undergoing unscheduled maintenance to remove duplicated items from the game. Also, as of today, all account sign-up and maintenance is suspended until further notice. (Existing players will still be allowed on, but will not be able to change their account info until further notice.)
Thang Online: These are the last two days of the Thang Online PR Event where players can get virtual payola for promoting the game on popular gaming sites. Articles that users post will be judged on both popularity of the site and the quality of what is written. Anyone who's ever read anything posted at the Thang site should be very concerned about that last criterion.
