"How to run a good name through the mud" is the title of a review of Pool of Radiance - Ruins of Myth Drannor at CGO. It says a lot about theri feelings, like the rating (2 stars out of 5). Here's an excerpt from the review:
Like so many duds before it, though, it short at almost every turn. The rules are poorly applied, the interface is clumsy, and the pacing is very, very slow. Lack of customization makes character building disinteresting, and even the amazing magical gear is made less exciting by a system where magic users simply dominate beyond only the lowest of low levels. More actual plot elements and opportunities to interact with the world could have spiced things up, what few exist are nicely done, but the little tidbits don't begin to balance out the rest. The technical problems just add injury to insult. Maybe Neverwinter Nights will do a better job with the 3rd Edition rules, but sadly Pool of Radiance, despite everything it has going for it, just winds up being all wet.
Although the review is dated yesterday, it seems to have been written before patch 1.2, btw...
