If you wanna play in A Tale in the Desert with your preferred name, then you better reserve it now.
Here is the official message:
    Everyone,

A couple days ago I hinted in the chat room that we would have one final "big announcement" before launch. Here it is: A Tale in the Desert will be the first (commercial) MMORPG to launch with both Windows and Linux (native) clients.
We have just 2 days until launch. Many people have asked for a way to reserve their Beta character name for release. I've put up a web page to do just that:

       http://www.atitd.com/name_reserve.php

If you find that your character name has already been taken, contact me by email and I will give preference to the person that had the name in Beta.
I'm putting the final touches on the trial-account code, the initial-mentors system, and the reserved characters system. I could use some help testing this. I'm going to put the server up for 2+ hours. Log in with either your reserved name, or a new character name:

       2/13/2003 2:00PM EST (GMT-0500) until at least 4:00PM

It will also be helpful if you try to abuse the free-trial-account system in any way you can think of.

Finally, there was one item that I forgot to cover in the Beta#3 amnesty session, and I was reminded of it recently. I occasionally type "tale in the desert" into search engines to see who is talking about us, and I came across a discussion on an Asheron's Call board where they were discussing the fact that I give out my cell phone number in case we have a server crash in the middle of the night.
The people in the newsgroup were discussing how foolish that was, and that I would get endless phone calls, etc. Judging by the numbers of players who were logged in to the various sessions when I broadcast my number, I would estimate that several thousand people have my cell phone number. The piece of information that I intended to reveal in amnesty was the total number of calls I got during Beta. I got a total of 2 calls, each one about five minutes after an actual server crash.
So the policy will continue in live. If there is ever a server crash (or serious exploit like a dup bug), it's OK to call me, any time of day at 1-***-***-****. (edit: Number removed, those who played before know the number)
Remember to reserve your character names, and I'll see everyone...

    On the Nile,
    Teppy (Pharaoh)
    Josh (Nekhmet)
    James (AmenRa)
    Dave (Orpheus)
    Joe (SickJoe)
    Ed (EdTut)
    Geoff (GeoffTut)
    Ricardo (Potiphar)
    Samara
