Description: |
An immortal named Modo has been sent to live a full mortal life on earth as punishment for his crimes in the Absolute, the realm of the afterlife. Angered by this humiliation, the now-mortal Modo is determined to not only reclaim all his previous power, but gain enough strength to destroy the Earth once and for all, so that he may never be punished in such a base way again. As the story's hero, the player must stop Modo's heinous plans and ultimately destroy him, or aid Modo in his quest to annihilate the Earth...
The Bloody Magic is an original 3rd person perspective RPG where the weapon of choice is magic. In this game, the player controls an Unlikely Hero in an ambitious search through many hostile environments looking for Modo, the ethereal being bent on destroying the world. The game is one of rich story-telling in a mostly medieval world, allowing the player a wide variety of choices both in individual quests and character development. The game includes some mature themes, making it appropriate for young adults and older. The Bloody Magic will be developed first for the PC, after which it will be ported to the XBox.
The Bloody Magic is different from most other popular RPG titles in that the player characters are all of one type: magician. There are over a dozen different fields of magic, allowing players many choices for specialization. This is especially useful in multiplayer games, allowing each member of a party to have different specializations. The most unique aspect of the magic system is the ability to combine spells. The player may combine 2 spells with a third component, such as a weapon, to create a three-part spell. For example, a player may use a fire spell and a poison spell with a dagger, causing a knife wound that also does burn and poison damage. This ability to combine spells creates an almost infinite array of spell possibilities. Some spells will not combine with others, so the player must discover which spells combine with each other and which combinations are the most powerful.
The player's primary task in The Bloody Magic is to either aid or stop Modo from destroying the world, depending on which alignment the player chooses. By speaking to various individuals and accomplishing quests, the player is led to each of Modo's accomplices, who in turn bring the player closer to Modo himself. As per its name, The Bloody Magic is very combat intensive; the player is rewarded for the quality and quantity of kills with experience points, which build up the player character. The heavy combat atmosphere does generate a mostly serious story line, so a great deal of humor has been introduced to counteract these effects. Five levels of difficulty encourage the player to play through the game repeatedly, as the experience and spells gained are cumulative.
The multiplayer aspect of The Bloody Magic is the most innovative system seen in any modern RPG. In addition to converting the single-player story line to allow multi-player gameplay, players may take their multiplayer characters and compete in 2-person duels or in large arenas against many others in true melee combat. Both the duels and the arena melees will utilize a ladder rating system to encourage competition. Online community services are also planned, such as: Clan Creation and Listings, Player Matching to match players of similar skills for various online play, and an online Marketplace to enable players to easily buy and sell rare game items.
