Gamerspulse has conducted an interview with Sigurdur Olafssen from CCP about their upcoming futuristic MMORPG Eve Online. Here we got with a small bit of it:

Q: What are some of the gameplay features that are unique to Eve Online? How does the game break or modify the conventions of its genre?

It’s difficult to name any one thing. The game has been designed from the ground up as a player vs. player (PvP) game, rather than a player vs. environment (PvE) one, like EQ. Every aspect of the game - such as the combat system and economy system - has been designed with this in mind. We’ve addressed many of the problems other MMPOGs have experienced, such as lag-issues, PKing and camping, and many of our solutions are unique. Naturally, we’re not willing to reveal too much before the game is released.

Q: Will environments be static, or will players be able to interact with the environment? My example would be could ships hide in gas nebulas?

There will be places where the environment interacts with the game, such as making detection harder or modifying the performance of the ship in other ways.
