RPGVault has put up a recap of their visit at Fisthank's booth during the E3 where lead designer Raphael Colantonio presented a demo of Arx Fatalis, a first-person RPG still in development...Perhaps the most interesting single element of the game is the gestural spellcasting, which the developers described as a mouse-based sign recognition system. In Arx Fatalis, magic is based on combination of runes that can be acquired through the course of the adventure. For example, one such rune shows a straight vertical slash, another a three-sided symbol like the sides and bottom of an incomplete square. Holding down a key on the keyboard and using the mouse to draw these two symbols in succession, the player causes a spell to be cast. I didn't write down the actual gestures we were shown, but if I recall correctly, this particular pairing produced a fireball-like result. Then, we were shown how spells can be changed by substituting a movement from a different rune.
