The story of Harbinger is told in a feature at RPGVault today. Here's how it starts:
To give a fair telling of Harbinger's story, we should start at the beginning. But since time and space play games of their own, beginnings are complicated things and finding them can be difficult. So we'll settle for something a little easier to find: a place.

This place we can call a beginning is a small back world the Scintilla have called home for as long as we care about. While it is a Scintilla home world, it's about as far removed from the towering cities and important happenings of Scintilla capital-worlds as we can imagine. Just a small handful of communities, where the Scintilla work their land, raise their children and bother their neighbors. A place far and free from the war and strife that politics and capital planets always seem to attract.

It is on this off-path planet we find the prophet Ballastre (though the title and trappings of prophet won't yet be bestowed for some time). In our beginning we find him to be little more than a friendless orphan, quiet and pensive sure, but hardly the prophet-in waiting you may have expected.
