From what we know, which is pretty much nothing, Divine Divinity 2 will be a "true sequel" to Divine Divinity, implying that it will follow the same storyline, involve the same people, and perhaps even also be a single character game, whereas Riftrunner delivers a new story arc in the same universe and incorporates full party-based play.
