Warcry has whipped up an interview with Robin Harper about 'Second Life':
Warcry: How Many Simulators are there in Second Life?

Robin Harper: Over 300, with 40+ more getting ready to go this month.

WC: Describe how Second Life integrates elements of the first in it's economy.

RH: We believe that for the economy to stay vital, and for SL to grow, the SL residents need to be able to realize value for the time they spend creating the wonderful buildings, objects and games that make SL so cool. That value comes in part from the pure joy of creativity, but it also comes from being able to realize a return on the time investment
in the form of object ownership and financial compensation. Digital rights and the ability to exchange L$ into US currency are important RL connections for SL residents. You'll see us continue to look for ways to simplify the permissions system and integrate Creative Commons licensing, and to support various banking-style projects.
