Gamespy has put up a review of Asheron's Call: Dark Majesty. The final score is 77%, and their major grief is that the game still favors power gamers, as you can see from their final statements:
On the plus side, Dark Majesty retails for under twenty bucks and includes a month of free play, a ten dollar value. So, if you're already playing Asheron's Call, it's a no brainer! The new island is fun to explore and player housing, despite the current shortage, works great. This is a great holiday gift for the current AC addict.
But for new players, or for people who grew tired of the original AC, the expansion doesn't do enough to really freshen up the game. Power players are still dictating game balance, newbies will frequently be forced to abandon characters they worked on for weeks because they're not developed correctly to handle the world, and all the game mechanics have been laid bare for exploitation. The two-year-old graphics are good but pale in comparison with newer games. In short? The content in the new expansion is awesome, but it only makes us wish they'd spent that energy bringing us Asheron's Call 2 starting from a clean slate. |
