An Eve Online Dev Diary, written by Steve Hildrew, has been posted at GamesDomain. Here's an excerpt:
We concluded phase four of our beta testing at the end of December, 2002. At the time, we had over 10,000 players invited to participate in the beta, and had a solid number of players in-game throughout the phase. We were able to gather a great deal of information on network performance and stability, in addition to all the wonderful bugs reported by our vigilant beta testers.
Over the past few weeks since the close of phase four, the development team has been focusing on improving network performance and client/server stability, expanding the universe (more on this later), adding enhancements to the NPC corporations, improving the functionality of the game's marketplace, and augmenting the agent/mission system. In addition, we've upgraded the code to support DirectX 9.0 in order to take advantage of the latest technology. |
