Game Daily has the latest preview for the upcoming RPG/RTS hybrid, Spellforce 2. The reviewer not only received a 'tour' of the game given by one of the publishers, but he was also treated to a demo disk conveniently left behind that allowed his preview to be more in-depth than some.
SpellForce 2 actually shares a fantastic similarity to Space Rangers 2, which I'll be previewing in the very near future, in that it doesn't necessarily play by the stereotypical (and crappy) RTS rules. It's a hybrid title that, while its core gameplay is straight up RTS, it incorporates these RPG elements that further enhance the overall experience. These include leveling up characters, talking to various NPCs, as well as purchasing over 1,000 different items and equipping your heroes in real time, so at the options screen you're able to swap out different outfits at will. But Phenomic's gone a step further by allowing you to experience the game from two vastly different perspectives, the traditional top down view that comes standard with any RTS title (point and click) and a unique behind the back third person perspective that not only gives you a more up close view of the action but let's you maneuver your characters with WASD controls, which is perfect for gamers like me who are used to playing action adventure titles.
Head over to Game Daily and read the rest of this enthusiastic preview.
