Joy - at least for those in the US: Shrouded Isles, the expansion pack for Dar Age of Camelot is shipping. Hot off the press:

Mythic Entertainment Ships Shrouded Isles, the First Expansion Pack to the Best Selling Online Game, Dark Age of Camelot™

FAIRFAX, VA – DECEMBER 3, 2002 -- Mythic Entertainment (www.mythicentertainment.com) today announced that the highly anticipated expansion pack to the fastest growing online game of all time has been shipped to retail outlets throughout North America. Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles™ (www.shroudedisles.com) will be available in stores beginning December 3, 2002.

“Shrouded Isles takes online gaming to a new level, with state-of-the-art graphics and visual effects that make it as advanced as any online game on the market,” said Mark Jacobs, President of Mythic Entertainment. “Our first expansion pack opens new horizons for the hundreds of thousands of Dark Age of Camelot fans, as well as those who have never experienced the game.”

Shrouded Isles extends the story and enhances the action of Dark Age of Camelot with new character classes, new races, and three new continents, displayed in an all- new graphics engine, with the ultimate in visual effects. The expansion also features a revamped user-interface, and an all-new ambient music system that randomly constructs musical expressions based on the player’s location and time of day. Other graphical improvements in Shrouded Isles include almost one hundred new monster models and almost 400 hundred new weapon, armor, and shield graphics - but the additions in this expansion are more than skin deep. Shrouded Isles has many new quests, thousands of new monster encounters, and an innovative artificial intelligence system enabling monsters to behave and attack in deadly new ways. Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles is the gamer's gateway to a world full of imagery from historical Europe, Arthurian legends, Norse mythology, and Irish-Celtic lore.

Shrouded Isles will take full advantage of NVIDIA graphics processors (GPU’s), including the new GE Force FX GPU, to bring the 3D world to life like never before. The game also features an updated version of NDL’s NetImmerse game engine that allows high resolution textures to make the elements of the game more realistic. According to Gamespot, “you don’t have to be a 3D graphics expert to appreciate Shrouded Isles’ improved graphics. You can just take a look at the expansion’s colorful new magic effects or stand next to a river, because the expansion will feature shimmering animated water, easily the best we’ve seen in an online RPG to date.”

Shrouded Isles was developed by Mythic Entertainment and co-published with Abandon Entertainment, and will be distributed by Vivendi Universal Games in North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Over 500,000 people have played Dark Age of Camelot, with over 50,000 people around the world playing simultaneously at peak times. Currently there are over 200,000 subscribers of Dark Age of Camelot, and when the game goes live in Korea this number is sure to surge further.

Since the release of Dark Age of Camelot, the game has become one of the most acclaimed online games of all time; Gamespot gave the game 9.1 out of 10, and named it Multiplayer Role Playing Game of the Year and one of the top ten PC games of 2001; USA Today and MSNBC both named the game PC Top Game of the Year; PC Gamer awarded the game their Editors’ Choice award and 90% rating; Computer Gaming World awarded it their Editors’ Choice award and a four and half stars out of five. It was also awarded the best online game of 2001 by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences.

Shrouded Isles will be available for a suggested retail price of $29.99.
