Two reviews of Disciples 2 - Dark Prophecy, hit the net today. The first one at Pregaming rates the game 8/10, coming to this conclusion:
This game is well done; of that there is no doubt. However, it doesn’t really offer anything new aside from the genre-blending, and that wanes after a while. It’s fun for a few missions, but they take so long that I became bored soon. It’s not really the length that bothered me; plenty of games are long. It’s simply that there’s not enough new stuff to do. Sure, getting a Holy Paladin and crushing goblin archers has its high points, but there’s just something missing from this game and it takes away heavily from the fun factor. Disciples II just didn’t hold my attention for that long.
Despite my qualms, this is a good game. Anyone interested in games like Civilization II and III and RPG games (console-type) should at least give this game a look. The second review can be found at Computer & Video Games and is less positive with a rating of 75/100. Their conclusion:
You may well be thinking Disciples II is just another average RPG to add to the many already in existence. Well technically, it is, but in practice it has that inexplicable ability to keep pulling you back for more. The gameplay elements may well be tried and tested and nothing new, but they blend together in such a way as to make for an addictive and engrossing gameplay experience, much in the same way the Heroes series does. The only thing that stops DII getting an unreserved recommendation is its woeful presentation. The graphics, as you can see from the screenshots on this page, are tripe. If you like tasty visuals with your addictive gameplay, ditch this and go for Etherlords. If you don't care either way, you could do a lot worse than Disciples II to get your turn-based RPG fix. |
