RPOGVault spotted an essay written by Chuck Yager at the Wizards of the Coast site. It's from last week, so shame on us that we missed it :-). The essay deals with some quirks that happened during the development of the game:
Another funny instance occurred the first time I fought Malgi Hi, a sort of mini-boss in the game. You happen across his camp and are attacked by lizardfolk turned to stone through his magical experimentation. However, at one point he cast fear at the party and some of my members fled in terror--up ramps and down pathways around the camp, triggering even more combats with other monsters. Soon, I found myself facing over 20 lizardfolk and Malgi Hi himself. Needless to say, that encounter needed a bit of trimming to ensure players would not die all the time, but I'm sure the look on my face as my party members triggered even more combatants was priceless. A similar look came across some of the development team's faces the other day when they were testing a bit of multiplayer combat and were beset by a half dozen Nottles (a trader NPC you meet early on in the game). Quizzical looks reigned as they tried to figure out the bug. Nothing like six harmless halfling NPC traders staring you down on the battlefield!
The article is real fun to read, so head over and enjoy :-) | Source: RPGVault |
