Gamecloud has written an interesting article that asks E3 Awards: Do They Really Mean Anything?, that looks at the fate of games lauded at the show down the track when they are released:While nearly all games shown at E3 are in various stages of completion, that does not stop the press who attend the show from giving out their opinions of what they saw. However, a number of web sites, both big and small, along with a select group of high profile gaming journalists, go one step beyond just an opinion. They give out awards in various categories to the games and products that are shown at E3 and those awards not only can influence how people buy the games when they come out but they are also used by publishers to generate marketing and hype for a game prior to release. These awards are usually based on demos that last 30 minutes at most, with many lasting less than 15 minutes. Still, getting an E3 award is no proof that the final game will in fact come out before the next E3 or if the game itself will be something that is worthy of an award. |
