UGO have previewed the console action RPG D&D Heroes. Here's a clip: But while D&D Heroes shows a lot more promise than Gauntlet, it's still a hack and slash. There's no two ways around it. If you're not a fan of Diablo (all two of you), this is probably not your game. For the rest of you, take a seat, because I'll be damned if you don't get a kick out of Heroes. Take this scene, for example. I was adventuring with a wizard and a Rogue (me, the ever tank-ish fighter), traipsing through an infested spider cave. We had things down to a science. I'd rush forward, taking the brunt of the webbing, while my wizard friend hung back casting (nerd alert) Magic Missile, while the Rogue snuck around and backstabbed. After taking out a large group of mini-Charlottes (don't worry, these ones couldn't spell), we were approached by a big daddy spider. Noting that my slow attacks weren't getting the job done, I knew I needed to speed things up. Good thing I had an ability that increased my attack speed (at the cost of some energy). Switching abilities (done all on the main screen so that the others can keep fighting), I started to wipe the floor with Mr. Longlegs. Down he went, and boy do we rule. |
