Here's the latest from A Tale in the Desert that found it's way in my mailbox:Citizens of Egypt,
From the beginning, A Tale in the Desert has had many players from Europe, despite coverage almost exclusively by US based web sites.
This Friday we'll be featured on www.eurogamer.net, and to coincide with that, we're planning a 12 hour play session:
Friday, 3/29/2002 from 12:00 Noon EST (GMT-0500) until Midnight.
We had a great time at Game Developer's Conference. I met a bunch of people that play ATITD, and lots more who knew all about the game. I think the highlight of the conference was at a session called "Massively Multiplayer, What's Next?". During the session, another developer pointed us out to the room, at which point the moderator shouted out: "You guys are the ones doing A Tale in the Desert? Can I get in on the Beta?"
A few game notes:
NAG (Nubian Artisan's Guild) is offing small amounts of Gold for trade. Anyone who needs gold for advanced projects can visit them at their camp.
BES has announced that their paper press is nearly complete. Once it is, papyrus paper may become more common, and research into Arbitration at the Great University of Leadership can begin.
SoT is interested in completing research on Automation this session, but doesn't want to do it alone. If any individuals (or guilds) would like to help, especially with wood and wax, contact them.
Hellinar has done some fascinating work trying to establish a commodity exchange near the Mountain Market. Check the forums for prices of a number of goods, using straw as a currency.
In the last session, sheep farming started to become more common, easing the supply of available leather.
...and...
We've added sound to the client. Right now, only a handful of actions trigger sounds. Now that the capability is there, however, we can start adding effects over the next few weeks.
Standard Stuff:
Visit our official chat channel before the session: irc.stratics.com port 6667 channel #ATITD.
Client software can be found on our web site (www.ataleinthedesert.com, Downloads section). New users can make up any username and password to create an account.
