The Armchair Empire has put up a preview of Heroes of Might & Magic 4. It's a short one, and given this explanation what HoMM is, at least for me a strange one, too *g*:
For the uninitiated, the HOMM games are stripped down turn-based strategy games in their simplest form. Players control Heroes who, in turn, lead armies of monsters of different types. The basic gameplay always reminded me of the Avalon Hill board game Titan with its stacks of standard fantasy monsters. The creatures of the HOMM universe include sprites, dwarves, minotaurs, dragons, skeletons, ghosts, etc.-the full classic fantasy menagerie. Players move armies of these creatures, led by heroes, around an overworld map collecting resources and butting heads with heroes from opposing armies controlled by the computer or another player.
Stripped down, in their simplest form? I always had the feeling that HoMM can be very complex at times, but maybe I am just too dumb for real strategy games :-). |
