There is a Freedom Force Beta Report to be found at the Freedom Force Forums. Here's a part of it:
Graphics are crisp and completely 3d, The cityscape and other locales are all 3d models. In the 'options' section I saw resolution settings aplenty. Character graphics, again, think 'Character Tool' it was great to see those same Melee 1, Dodge Right moves actually executed against baseball bat wielding thugs on a fully rendered background, hit points and energy levels are shown by coloured bars. The action is viewed in isometric, you can zoom right in or a fair way out. There is a rotate camera option but you can get a little lost until you get used to it. Cut scenes use a combination of cartoon and 'talking heads' to develop the story, they are pure comic book and a delight, e.g. 'but unknown to Minute Man, lurking in the shadows, someone was watching him.'
The interface is based on pop-up menus, left click and you select which power or attack you will use right clicking enables you to command your hero to 'throw' or 'wield' etc. You can have a 'ready' attack or power selected, power icons and info are displayed. I am a turn-based player from way-back so the real-time play and mouse clicking got a little hectic for me at times, but others more adept had no problems whatsoever. Overall the interface is logical and easy to use, the more so for people like me, with practice! The game environment is totally interactive, rip out a lamp-post, swing it and you will deck 3 or 4 thugs at a time! Pick up that Chevy and hurl it, but watch out for civilians they can be hurt, and try not to destroy a building as you lose points. |
