A new preview of Morrowind has been published at GamesDomain today. Here's something about the graphic splendor to be found in the game:
A special mention goes to the water effects, reflective and rippling realistically as you swim through it, or as the rain hits it, they are breathtaking. You'll need a GeForce 3 or better to enjoy them, though, relying as they do on the pixel shader hardware included on those cards. The game scales reasonably to lower-end systems, but although it's still in beta and there's still time for optimisations, it's probably fair to say a fairly up-to-date system will be needed to get the best from the game.
More graphical delights await those who choose to head straight for the big city. As you walk down the gangplank away from the silt walker into Balmora, only the most jaded of gamers will be unimpressed by its scale. Split in two by a river, the city is divided into three or four well-defined districts - one with upscale housing, one with shops and guilds, and so forth. Each of the many cities in Morrowind has a clear personality and style of construction; no cookie-cutter design here. The cities are also liberally filled with NPCs, all of them killable (in theory, at least), and there is only one individual whose death will prevent you from finishing the main quest. |
