RPGDot Game Rating Machine

Jacko has rated the following games:

Anarchy Online: 10/10 points

I for one am sick of MMORPGs that only concentrate on swords and sorcery. It's nice to have a sci-fi MMORPG. I would have given this game one star at its release because it was buggy as hell but they've done a nice job in fixing it up. UO, AC, EQ, DAoC, they're all the same, this is one that uses a different world, I'd give it a try or wait for Star Wars Galaxies if you're sick of the same old themes in MMORPGs. After all, in the end, all MMORPGs are really only hack, slash, rinse, level and repeat. :-)

Arcanum - Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura: 8/10 points

Good story and very novel character development as well as theme story. Terrible voice acting and abysmal flat graphics. (See the early Bioware D&D games for 2-D RPGs done right.) Very underrated RPG though, I'll be interested to see what the sequel brings.

Asheron's Call: 10/10 points

One of the few MMORPGs that works on many levels. For those that want to create a PK world full of clans and PK power structures, the darktide server is the best PK server of all MMORPGs. The lore in Asheron's Call beats all MMORPGs. Some people play just to collect ancient artifacts and documents in the game. One of the few with an interesting continuing story and even the developers get in on the action and control enemies. Good character development system which lets you concentrate on anything you'd like.

Baldur's Gate: 10/10 points

The PC game that brought D&D back to life on PCs everywhere. Brilliant engine, one of the best every designed for RPGs! I prefer the sequel myself in the Baldur's Gate series but this is a very close second!

Baldur's Gate - Tales of the Sword Coast: 5/10 points

Average expansion, works better than the expansion for BG2 because of the broader map system for the first game but doesn't compare to the joy I had playing the game itself.

Baldur's Gate 2 - Shadows of Amn: 10/10 points

Perhaps the best PC D&D game ever! Brought henchmen interaction to an entire new level that no game has since matched! Brilliant voice acting, great story, I have nothing bad to say about this game!

Baldur's Gate 2 - Throne of Bhaal: 5/10 points

More of a chance to cash in on the Baldur's Gate name then continue the epic story. It's hard to make a challenging expansion though when all your characters have achieved "god level." :-)

Black & White: 10/10 points

Interesting that this game would be in an RPG category. It does have a great story to guide you along and it has truer character development than any stat based game ever because you have to train a savage beast into a tamed sophisticated magic wielding quasi-human. Maybe this is the future of RPGs when computers are poweful enough? Nevermind boring stats and numbers when computers can simulate AI. :-) I give the game ten stars because so it's so damn original. In this age of sequels, expansions and repeats of the same old tired genre, this is one PC game that stands out above the rest.

Curse Of The Azure Bonds: 10/10 points

Another classic D&D SSI game! Most of the early ones were the best of the series!

Deus Ex: 10/10 points

Completely involved me in the game from minute one. One of the few action games (with or without an RPG emphasis) that made me want to replay levels and find all the different ways to complete the stage.

Diablo: 5/10 points

If you like the hack and slash "RPGs," Diablo is the brainchild of modern creations like Dungeon Siege and Icewind Dale. I find these games boring, but if you enjoy them, this is the one to own.

Dungeon Siege: 5/10 points

Not an RPG, people should be publicly flogged for putting a description like that on the box of this game. Beautiful graphics and fun inventory systems but really only a hack and slash in its purest form.

EverQuest: 5/10 points

Decent MMORPG but I've always though the original MMORPG, Ultima Online was the best. Everything else has been a rip-off. I even found Asheron's Call more stimulating than Everquest, I have no idea how EQ manages to remain #1. If you enjoy being suckered into another $30 expansion game every 3 months or insist on a RAM guzzling game, EQ is the MMORPG for you.

Freedom Force: 10/10 points

It's an RPG depending on your definition. It has a more entertaining story, stat builder and fun combat system than most games on this list. Just because it doesn't have wizards and sorcerers doesn't mean it's not an RPG. Many of the fantasy themed games on this list were just as linear as Freedom Force.

Gothic: 9/10 points

Gothic is the best :)

Icewind Dale: 5/10 points

More of a hack and slash dungeon crawler than epic story! If that's your niche (hack and slash) you'll enjoy this game but the rest of us should stay with the Baldur's Gate series.

Planescape: Torment: 10/10 points

A unique RPG! Great story and fun environment as not many RPGs revolve around a bizarre undead world. Nice twist on the D&D series.

Pool of Radiance: 10/10 points

Ignore the idiots that thought this review was for Pool of Radiance II. POR2 was terrible but POR1 was the first game to showcase how great Dungeons and Dragons RPGs were on the computer. Fans of the early SSI D&D games still have these games. I wish someone could make another blatant turn-based sytem for D&D PC games.

Pool of Radiance - Ruins of Myth Drannor: 1/10 points

A disaster!

Pools of Darkness: 10/10 points

Even though it was made years earlier, it was a superior sequel to POR1 in every way than the terrible POR2 that was recently released. Best of the SSI D&D series!

Ultima 4 - Quest of the Avatar: 10/10 points

The birth of RPGs as we know them! When games could begin to hold enough space to make the epic stories developers wanted, one game stepped up and provided memorable characters and a story to boot! Any RPG fan that played in the 80's went through every single Ultima game! :-)
