GamerGod has posted an interesting preview(?) of Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising. In it, Raven discusses some of the core aspects of the game, including the potential for truly massive battles between tribes (guilds) due to the inclusion of minions in the game.
Ever since I found out about Gods and Heroes (GnH), one thing has stuck in my mind -- “huge battles.” GnH will give players control of up to a maximum of 8 minions. You get more slots as you get higher in levels, which means that once guilds are formed, they can call up on very large number of combatants, both NCP and player. Even a small group of 8 players can quickly (counting themselves) muster 72 fighting units. OK sit back a bit and think about that.

Now, let’s look at this on a tribe level (guilds in GnH will be called tribes), not forgetting all tribes won’t be the same in every way least in size. Let’s use a tribe with 20 active members. As the game is very much combat oriented, it’s plausible to say that all 20 could be called open to fight if it was timed right. As a squad can contain 9 units (8 minion NCPs and the player), we come up with the figure 180. Not a small number when you consider that’s 160 NCPs under the control of players.
