Good game. A bit slow for the system requirements at times but it plays well

ron628@yahoo.com has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from ron628@yahoo.com)

Not quite as engrossing as Wizardry 7. The heart of the story and your purpose in it is revealed much to soon. I would have preferred for the story itself to play out more gradually, but your main objective is clear pretty early on in the game. Also there are very few side quests, though there are some cool hidden locations in the game if you can find them. Those who enjoy old-school, first-person, party-based CRPG's should not miss out. Forget about Baldur's Gate II, or Icewind Dale or Arcanum. wizardry 8 is the real deal!

Rob Starobin has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Rob Starobin)

Excellent character system, good item grabbing, wonderful plot. Easily the best traditional RPG since Betrayal at Krondor.

AkShel has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from AkShel)

The complexity, delivered in a polished and down-to-earth manner, of this game is, in my opinion, unequaled by another game on the market. Wizardry 8 is truly a masterpiece.

OFoglada has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from OFoglada)

Addicting as all hell. If you dont plan on playing for a while don't load this game. You will spend hours on end fighting baddies for the greater good. Farewell Sir-Tech!

Character development is in my opinion what sets this apart from other rpg's. Excellent, with 3d too.

Brassi has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Brassi)

I love the Wizardry series so I'm a little biased. * was good, but combat is tedious, and it is lacking something. I didn' really care about the story or what would happen next, I played just to get through it. But it is one of the few games I finished in the last couple years

dteowner has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from dteowner)

The only reason this isn't a "10" is that occasionally a battle will drag out too much. If the poll allowed "9.9", that's what I'd go with. For story, character development, and sheer addiction, this game is among the best ever.

Mortal Coil has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Mortal Coil)

Interesting game, and beautiful too, with a great character generation system. My big problem was the mundane nature of battles. They take too long, and too often i ended up fighting the same creatures over and over again. I prefer turn-based combat to the Baldur's Gate sort of combat, but this just took too long to resolve conflicts.

Black_Lord has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Black_Lord)

Great game, worth buying if you don't mind long, drawn out battles. Too bad there will never be another Wizardry unless somebody buys the rights to the engine. This one could have been so much more with a bit of tweaking, it seems rather rushed.

Lucky Day Dragon has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Lucky Day Dragon)

I'm giving this a 10 to offset lower scores like the set. its really a 9.7 :). Amazingly addictive. Took me 5 months. Really wish the kept he old spell systems. Would love to have Tiltowaited the Trynnies.

Tarq has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Tarq)

David has rated 5/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from David)

Great character creation. Well designed first dungeon (used as the demo naturally). Everything went downhill from there. Casting spells over and over not because you needed them but because you HAVE to ramp up magic and it's the best way to do it. Tedious outside areas stocked with 'too dificult' denziens. Everything is a fighting zone without the relaxation of getting to a 'rest area'.

sctvorp has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from sctvorp)

Okay graphics and a weird storyline. What i hate most about this game is how hard it is. I got stuck in one area cuz the game kept generating more monsters, and i couldn't get out no matter what i tried. Fighting against 20+ monsters is not easy, nor fun. If game didnt spawn monsters constantly (which isnt realistic), and was not so difficult, I would like this game a lot better.

Jason Turner has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Jason Turner)

By far the best game, of any type, that I have ever played. Wizardry 8 is a game you love to play but hate to finish because it is so enjoyable to play. This game makes it truly difficult to play other RPGs without being sadly dissapointed.

Yosk has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Yosk)

The game is addictive and has high replayablity. Great graphics. Support staff is very committed, too. I don't need another game at least for the year 2002.

Easily one of the best CRPG ever made!

CoFR Jafo has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from CoFR Jafo)

Another in an excellent line of RPG - the Wizardry series. Intricate story line with excellent character development. One of the few games that I have replayed to try out different variations on the characters offered.

I came into Wizardry 8 with no prior Wizardy experience. I had always wanted to play the Wizardry games but had somehow failed to play any of them. Hearing so much about this game and the series, I had high expectations. I enjoyed this game, but felt its gameplay wasn't really all that great. The plot seemed fairly loose, and the NPC interaction wasn't great. Those few beings you could converse with were generally nothing amazing. The combat system I thought was quite good, but waiting for those 20 friendly allies and not-so-friendly enemies to move before you characters get their 1 attack got tedious quite fast. Though a decent RPG in its own right, I found myself wanting to play a Might&Magic game again rather than finish this one.

Best combat system, game balance(!) for me. How can such a combat intensive game be so challenging till the end? I'm also impressed by the character development which is also incredible well balanced.

Larry Kruitz has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Larry Kruitz)

As compared to others Wizardy 8 is far past other games that claim to be RPG's. Take the story line and compare it to other games that may have slightly better graphics but that is it.

decent game. 1st person perspective makes for problematic party movement during combat. story is a little thin. combat interminably long and random encounters tend to be overpowered in mid game. character development is great though and kept me engrossed.

Not without minor culprits, but the fact that it's the only serious RPG right now and simply a marvel of a game justifies a perfect ten rating.

Lucky Day Dragon has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Lucky Day Dragon)

Single handedly brought computer games out of the arcade. Mapping Mapping Mapping. A Great level up system (one that BG and NWN can't figure out!). Spell system is still the coolest anywhere; it's a shame DW Bradley got a hold of this system because he killed it. When I tell people I jsut finished playing Wiz 8 the first thing they ask me is, "Tiltowait?" And I lok sad and say, "No, they killed it with number 5." Ahh, the kobolds deserved Tiltowait. Apparently based on Ubliette made for mainframes. Attack, Attack, Attack, Parry, Parry, Parry.

Kyle Alder has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Kyle Alder)

It's a fun game with decent graphics. However, I would only recommend it for the hardcore RPGer looking for something a little simpler, however the game might be a little bit too slow paced for the more casual gamer or younger gamer. Still a great game with alot of depth though.

This game could've been great. Now it's just slightly better than mediocre. I just wasn't fascinated.. Something that marks a truly great CRPG.

Dave has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Dave)

Love it, it's silicon crack, this will suck your life away, it's so much fun. I heard that the combat drags out, and that's what usually put me off RPGs, but this dragged and I didn't care, it was that great Great non-linear gameplay, hugely satisfying, tonnes of things to do, and the only reason it looks 5 years old is because it took them about that long to get it on the shelves (some publishing problems etc) Also, this is my first wizardry, and my first old school RPG, and i love every m inute of it. Great music too.

This is an absolutely fantastic game. There is a speed patch (unsupported, but it works fine) out there to speed up combat. (I know this took off at least a point for a lot of you). If you're a fan of the series, or RPGs in general, you will NOT be dissapointed with this game!

D.J. has rated 10/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from D.J.)

Excellent balance of plot vs. action with a little humor and gratuitous sex thrown in. With a beefy computer (double the sys requirements or better) the animation is amazing!

Arax_TheBold has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Arax_TheBold)

A good game however I found myself having to reload ALOT. That’s embarrassing to say of course and maybe not everyone will admit that. The battles where also very slow and tedious, waiting and waiting, and sometimes you cant even tell what your waiting for. When you first start playing you are looking forward to the battles but by the middle of the game some of them make you want to bash your head on the keys. Some good points where the graphics where very impressive and the story line was very good. Voice acting and character development where very good as well.

SergioCQH has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from SergioCQH)

This is a good RPG but I did not like the combat system at all. It's slow and tedious and you have fight every 5 steps.

ralph the avatar has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from ralph the avatar)

It's a shame that this will likely be the last one. I had a blast playing it for the last month. At times, combats were drawn out, or unfairly tilted to the monsters adavantage. But the game ran smooth, only crashed once and had me going just a few minutes more just to see what would happen. If you haven't bought it yet, get going, maybe then, we'll see Wiz 9

Dennis has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Dennis)

One of the most interesting and addictive RPGs recently. Don't be scared off by comments about the battles - just set the difficulty level lower! Story, setting and NPCs are great, and that's what counts.

moya has rated 6/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from moya)

Although the character creation and development side of the game is very deep and addictive, the game as a whole is somewhat lacking. This is probably because it is so single-mindedly focused on one thing: combat. There are no other ways to play this game, no roles to take that don't end up with you in a scrap. The plot is vague and poorly developed, character interaction is sparse and purely for information-gathering, there's really nothing more than fight after fight after fight. Is this what role-playing is all about? Haven't things moved on?

thuroughly addictive sequel and worthy of the Wizardry name. Less dungeon crawl than the original though and less of that instinctive need to map but compelling. The DW Bradley inspired elements are OK but like everyone, I miss Tiltowait!

Great game, except once I got powerful, a lot of the combat with minor creatures seemed like a waste of time. I would have rather spent that time fighting equal creatures, exploring, solving puzzles, etc...

Solamon77 has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Solamon77)

Great core RPG, but a little bit weak on story. Probably one of the best combat systems I have ever used though. I wasn't a fan of how the enemies got stronger and stronger with you. It just didn't seem realistic and I never got to enjoy the satisfaction of having a truely strong party unless I wanted to beat up a town.

Motoki has rated 8/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Motoki)

I liked this game a lot. I really liked the full voice and the personalities it gave the npcs. I guess there could have been more npcs, but then they probably would have been more generic and not had full voice. I also liked that your party has voice and you can pick their personalities, a lot better than just picking a lifeless party where your imagination has to supply the personality. One thing I didn't like though was much was made of which faction you should choose to side with throughout the game, but in the late stages of the game and in the end it really made no difference. It's still an excellent RPG though and I would reccomend it.

Shyguy has rated 7/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Shyguy)

This game does not stand up to the depth and quality of the the previous 2 classic Wizardy games. It was a valiant effort, and, yes, it was an enjoyable game, but it was just a bit too mundane, in my opinion. Leveling was fun, and the battle system was pretty well done, but combat dragged out for way too long. The world was a bit small, and the story was pretty non-existent. Bells and whistles finally won over gameplay in this finale of the Wizardry series.

Wizzban3 has rated 9/10 points (Click here to see more Reviews from Wizzban3)

Wizardry 8 was successful in showing people what a fine Team Sir-Tech is. They didn t just make the game look like the best First Person RPG ever, they have also included a story this kept me up for months playing it again and again. The Grand Finale of the Game, it was one of the RPG Endings that didn t disappoint me at all. In Most Games the Ending isn t as you would like it to be. Not in Wizardry 8. If i was a Rich man, i would spent my money on people like Sir-Tech. I HOPE THAT SIR-TECH WILL "SURVIVE" THE CURRENT SITUATION and will complete Jagged Alliance 3 at least :D Best of Luck

Wiz 8 is one of my favorites video game rpg. It is the exact type of experience I expect when I buy a video game. The story is deep, the paths are many and interresting. Most of all Wiz 8 is challenging but not frustrating. I admit that it could have better graphics but considering that this game could not find a publisher for over two years, I'm happy to have it at all.

I loved the game because it had all of the excitement of playing wiz 1-7 and tied up most of the loose ends from 7. I think it could have been even better if the T'rang/Umpani line had been developed all the way through to the end. The best part of the game was the character creation and development. Sometimes the frequency of battle opportunities was trying. I hope there is another one eventually.

Besides Ultima 5... this game is possibly my favorite RPG of all time. This game was masterfully crafted. The interface is a joy to use. The story is deep and interesting. There is an excellent balance between exploring, fighting and character development. The game is fairly open-ended and you can run through it in almost any order. The story is there... but you can choose to basically ignore it if you wish. Half the reason to play this game is for the challenging and in-depth battle system. These battles are a blast (they can get so crazy at times that you will sometimes spend 20 minutes on a single battle... and love every minute of it.) There are tons of spells to use both offensive and defensive. Character creation and development is really fun and amazingly deep. The game is so well balanced that you can make it through the game with almost any combination of party members... but it takes careful thinking to make the correct choices to advance your characters in the most useful areas. Compared to to some modern games the graphics might seem a little bit dated... but after a few hours you get used to it... and there are some areas that are just gorgeous by any standards. If you like in depth old-school RPGs... just buy this game, you will not regret it.

After playing the MM series (5-7) I moved on to this game. I had never played the earlier versions (and probably never will) and found this game quite enchanting. At the lower (player) levels it seems quite well balanced - though as players level higher (23+) balance seems to fall away (esp when comparing magic to hand/hand combat). However, this is very near the end of the game and not so bad. The 'quests/puzzles' are rather enjoyable (I rather disliked baldur gate type quests). The game has a few flaws: a) The engine is not data driven (aka you can't add mods or fixed the current database easily) b) The graphics are a bit dated (I find this rather minor but other complain) c) The game is clearly unfinished (many areas/quests were never implemented). C is understandable given the company history (aka they went bankrupt) but still an obvious flaw d) The game is a bit hack/slash (I don't dislike this but others will) but has a good mix of puzzles/quests. I wish there was a new version that had nwn scripting ability/area builder but used this sort of engine (party based and perspective). I'm not a big fan of nwn overhead perspective and I strongly dislike nwn multi-player implementation (the async behavior between client and server is one big pain in the ass along with all the bugs). Anyways, a very enjoyable game for those who like the mm series - probably not as enjoyable if you are a big fan of baldur gate.

Wizardry 8 surpasses every other game (all genres) I've ever played. Even Morrowind. It's got everything, but doesn't have too much. All of the features balance (so there's no 'overdosing') to make the perfect game in terms of replayability, depth, beauty, intensity, complexity, simplicity, personalization, etc. This is certainly one of the greatest undertakings of all time and I hope to see Wizardry 9 one day. (As long as the series isn't corrupted by mindless developers, and tainted by dedication lacking in comparison to Sir-tech, that is.)

This game has a lot going for it. I feel it is really let down by the many tedious, pointless random battles. The battles are turn-based and take an eternity to complete just one. This would be tolerable if previously cleared areas did not respawn. Ultimately I got too frustrated with this and never finished the game. The interface for casting spells in battle is tedious due to repetition which makes battles even worse. Character development is definitely the best thing about the game - so many different classes and races! NPC interaction and quests are average (though it is hard to make a definitive remark about this as I did not finish the game). Overall I did enjoy the game when I first started and the world is intriguing with many areas to explore. However the battles just became too tiring. I've never played any of the previous Wizadry's - perhaps I could have withstood the tedium if I had.

Wizardry 8 is the last of the old generation RPG family. Ultima died out first, then finally Might and Magic went out with a whimper. However, the Wizardry series ends with a bang lounder than the 5th November (guy Fawkes day). Wizardry 8 is amazing on one condition; you get your party right. If you balance it perfectly, with fighters, mages and rogues, then the game is not too hard to get into and fun as well. My advice is get the game while you still can.

This game is an above average RPG. It's on par with the likes of Might & Magic. If you like M&M, you'll like Wizardry 8. If you like character generation, Wizardry 8 is pretty good for that. There is a variety of interesting things to do, but if you are like me of the story-based RPG kind, the shallow generated characters and random combats in the game make the game very boring after a while. This game is also annoying in that if you linger in the early stages of the game you can encounter enemies that can disease you but its beyond your capability to cure - and you can't buy a potion. Still, the game is okay. Kept me engrossed for a couple of weeks.

After playing KOTR; Beyound Divinity and all the others, i fall again in love with this game. Reason Number ONE: I AM THE MASTER. I don not like the way NW SOTU handle the henchmans, they do what THEY want. But again, i would like to use this deep combat system, i would like to master my party. The story is great, the classes and races are fantastic, you can play this brilliant game more than one, two or three times. Yes, call me a old school gamer, but remember, the FUN counts, not the graphic, not the sound. AND THE FUN is unbelievable HIGH in this wounderful piece of software.

I enjoyed this more than Baldurs gate. Found the combat very satisfying. Running away like hell also accounted for some very terse moments! I would advise to download the patch (wasn't it just a registry hack?) that turns off the monster animations during battles - if only I'd known about this before I finished the game... Would have saved a LOT of time. Minor niggle: lack of subquests. The story is only okay I guess, but the immersion is there due to the graphics and npc's. Considering the scarcity of non- hack & slash RPG's, if anybody produced an expansion pack I'd buy it immediately.

Although I played and enjoyed many RPGs of different kind I found no access to Wiz8. Graphics are sometimes good sometimes bad and the system to advance levels was far to complicated. Without optimal distribution of skill points you'll have soon an absolutly useless party, where nothing works. So your spells have no effect, you don't hit your enemys in melee combat. Even ranged attack was annoying, because it's impossible to attack hostile archers or wizards with bow and arrow, even for your heroes in the 2nd row if a opponent stands in front of your melee characters. (Never heard of a ballistic curve?) You also get almost always circled an outnoumbered by your opponents and their is little way to prevent this. I tried it a second time with more experience in character development in that game and tips from other players, but failed again.
