A new Eve Online preview has been posted at fan site Eve-Universe. A very detailed one, with lots of insight, written by someone who actually cares about the game, not just reproducing PR stuff :-). Here's a snippet from the article:
All the races are human, but after have lived in isolation from each other in thousands of years on alien planets, they have become genetically distinct from each other. As a player, you may choose 4 of the 5 races, except for the secretive and conniving Joves.
Typical for CCP, is that they think in new ways with regards to RPG. This element of the game consists of attributes and skills. There are no classes, no levels, and not even experience points.
Your choice of race affects the attributes you have at the start of the game. The attributes affects, among other things, how fast you learn new skills. Skill increase through the use of skill packs which you must find and purchase. The key to understanding skill packs is knowing that they are used in real time. This means that you can start a skill pack in-game, go and visit friends over the weekend, and when you come back and log in, your character has learned a new skill. It is estimated that it will take up to 3 years to maximize all the skills available in the game, not counting those which may be added later. |
