Powergaming Editorial @ Mythica HQ

As a follow-up to his previous editorial on why he thinks role-playing will never work in an MMORPG, Moloch from Mythica HQ explains why powergaming is good in online games:
Secondly, powergaming is all about the pursuit of gaming knowledge, and powergamers are the major source of knowledge to the game's community. In their efforts to go further and faster than anyone else powergamers gain knowledge: knowledge of the game mechanics, of the game world, of character races and classes, of the skill system, of the mobs, of loot, of quests and of crafting. And the remarkable thing is that many of them are prepared to share this knowledge with others. Strategy guides, hints and tips, walkthroughs, templates, and maps - all of these are gifts freely given by powergamers to those who choose to use them. Powergamers are the librarian monks of yesteryear; collecting, preserving and publishing knowledge for the common good.

If you would like to discuss the article there is a thread for just that right here at Mythica HQ's forums.
