The 14th installment of the Etherlords Developer Diary is up at Gamespy now. Denis Borzenkov talks about balancing spells and the difficulties in doing so:

As the number of ether channels grows slowly enough in the course of battle, we thought that this spell would only be efficient at later stages of a battle which is really nothing special. However, we didn't account for the fact that Vitals' possess spells that can create ether and ether channels virtually out of the thin air. As a result, a combination of Mana Flash, Ether Draw (this allows making four ether points out of one), and Stone Henge (this makes additional ether channels) allowed to get three primitive Treants (initially 1 point of attack) to inflict 25 points of damage to an enemy. This is very impressive, especially while using the Glitterdust spell that prevented the majority of enemy creatures from blocking this turn.
