The Characters
PlanetSacred: How did the idea for the Vampire Lady and the Seraphim come about?
Aarne: Well, one Saturday morning I cut myself shaving and when I saw all the blood... well, no, seriously... it was a brainstorming effort of the whole team... inspired by comics and well known TV series (every Wednesday on German TV channel Pro7). However, the Seraphim has been invented by Steve...
Michael: ... and all the different ideas showed mutual positive effects. The Seraphim, being a female Paladin (borrowed from David Eddings "Sparhawk"), was subject to discussion in an early version of the game. She then turned into a mystical angel... and now she is... ah, I won't tell.
PlanetSacred: Which attributes will a character have?
Aarne: Strength, dexterity, stamina, physical regeneration, magical regeneration and courage/personality (charisma).
Michael: There will not be any attribute upgrade orgies though. We're sticking to the classical RPG approach: The skills are improving depending on the existent attributes.
PlanetSacred: How do you limit the carriage of the character? Is there a weight value attached to items?
Aarne: : No. The carriage is limited by the size of the inventory.
PlanetSacred: Which special skills (e.g. "Horse-riding", "Weapon lore") can we choose from? How many special skills are available?
Aarne: You'll get to know about them during the course of the game. There are 8 out of 12 skills per character. Different characters can learn the same skills. Aside from that, there are 30 skills in total like skills that boost your special moves or your magical abilities just as well as trading or horse-riding related skills.
PlanetSacred: To which extent do levels, skills and traits influence each other?
Aarne: They strongly influence each other mutually. For example, you can't develop a skill beyond your level limit.
PlanetSacred: Can you explain the inventory? Which item can be equipped at which item slot?
Aarne: Ugh, a tough one. Well, every character has his/her own individual equipment screen. The Gladiator and the Seraphim are able to wear shoulder pads, for example. The Elf and the Mage can't but they can wear more rings and amulets. I can't possibly go into more detail here. There's too much to list.
PlanetSacred: Are there hotkeys for quickly accesing health or mana potions?
Aarne: Not at this time... we intend to balance the game in a way to make those hotkeys unnecessary.
Michael: Exactly. It was subject to discussion at some point but we dropped the idea because it turned out to be unnecessary. We don't want that "I-have-to-permanently-hit-the-potion-key" type of combat.
PlanetSacred: Will we be able to alter our character's appearance according to our own liking? Like... different voices, hair color, eye color, skin color?
Aarne: No, you can only change the name of the player character. Any further "individualization" can only be achieved by outfitting your character with some sort of special equipment (like wearing items related to "Fire" that deal fire damage or raise your resistance against "Fire" attacks).
PlanetSacred: Are we going to be awarded positive or negative titles throughout the game?
Aarne: No, we're all fighting for the good cause... even though... the Dark Elf and the Vampire Lady have a touch of evil deep inside their hearts.
Michael: But really only a touch. One could also argue that their good hearts are residing in a dark shell... just like Darth Vader. Evil but still nice in a way! ;-)
PlanetSacred: Does the character interact with the player? Does the character talk to us in different situations like telling us to get going when he is forced to stand ground for a minute or so?
Aarne: The character will keep himself entertained. He might start to play around with his weapon or mumble something to himself on occasion.
