An article about Chris Taylor showing off Dungeon Siege in Australia can be found at Dungeon Siege Center (in the browser's title bar, it says Max Payne Center, but this is not true, no *g*). Her's a part:
The game world of Dungeon Siege is huge and non-restricted. You can walk anywhere in the world and discover new and unique items along the way. There is however signs and paths you can follow which assist you in the quests, this ensures that you don’t get lost. During the game the player will encounter enemies such as small dragons and goblins as well as the traditional cliché elements such as spiders and zombies. The single player world is so diverse and along the way your party will grow larger to form a group. If a party member is killed in the midst of battle the character is only ‘knocked unconscious’ this allows the other party member to save the character by killing the foe currently attacking him. However if the enemy is allowed to continuously attack the character, they die and can no longer be used in the game. This gives the player a ‘second chance’ in case they walk into an area where they are completely outskilled and outnumbered. This of course doesn’t apply if there is only one character in your party.
Dungeon Siege is very customizable with the ability to create any character you wish before setting off on your long adventure (according to Chris over 50 hours of gameplay is in Dungeon Siege). Before the adventure begins the player selects all options such as hair and skin color as well as whether its a female and male. This section of the game has so much depth that creating yourself in the game is very much a reality and Chris commented on this during his speech. The artificial intelligence of the characters and foes is astounding even in this beta stage. If you happen to be in the inventory sorting out items whilst a foe decides to attack you to an extent your character will defend itself. This is definitely a refreshing change from the traditional frustrating actions of having to close everything and then attack the enemy, all the time losing health points. |
