SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT CONTINUES GLOBAL EXPANSION
-Company Announces Server Deployment in Amsterdam, Netherlands-
AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – April 4, 2002 – Sony Online Entertainment Inc., a worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online gaming, announced today that EverQuest®, the world’s No. 1 multiplayer online game, will now be hosted on local servers based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Europe’s most popular online game is now more easily accessible, and international gamers can enjoy a truly localized EverQuest experience. This new server is the latest in a succession of localization efforts for the European and Asian markets, including additional payment options. The first European server launched in the United Kingdom on November 1, 2001, to resounding success and now hosts more than 2,000 simultaneous users nightly.

Over the past twelve months, SOE has actively expanded its international presence. The Amsterdam server is the second deployment in the European market following the November launch of the EverQuest UK server. Additionally Sony Online Entertainment recently announced a partnership with NCsoft to host EverQuest on its game servers in Korea. Deploying additional EverQuest game servers in new markets allows faster game-play for International audiences. Faster game-play coupled with in-game translation enhances the over-all EverQuest experience by facilitating enjoyment and ease-of-play for the international player.
EverQuest continues to grow with top-selling expansions The Ruins of KunarkÔ and The Scars of VeliousÔ and The Shadows of Luclin™. With new player features and improved graphics, EverQuest: The Shadows of Luclin is the most extensive expansion pack yet offered. Sony Online Entertainment recently announced the latest expansion to the critically acclaimed EverQuest series, EverQuest: The Planes of Power. Due to launch this fall, The Planes of Power will give players access to the most powerful deities in all of Norrath. During peak periods, more than 98,000 adventurers and dragon slayers have explored the world of Norrath simultaneously. EverQuest currently has more than 425,000 subscribers. SOE recently launched Legends, a premium server offering EverQuest players additional features including player profiles and enhanced navigation tools. Demand for Legends was so high that the server reached capacity in the first month after its launch.
