Thanks to Bones from The Erathian Liberation PArty (TELP) for letting us know about their semi-official patch 1.3 for 3DO/NWC's farewell Might & Magic 9:
New Fan-supported Patch Makes MM9 More Friendly
3DO couldn't afford to finish Might & MagicŪ IX properly, nor could it afford to have New World Computing (NWC) continue to fix it after it was released. The result was a deeply flawed yet promising game that disappointed long-time fans and first-time players.
Now, as 3DO is about to shut down forever, The Erathian Liberation Party (or TELP for short) has released the first comprehensive patch for the English version of MM9 since the official 1.2 update. Although not endorsed by 3DO or NWC, several members of the game's original development team contributed their advice and insights to the project.
The patch corrects over 80 significant bugs and was designed to be compatible with existing savegames. TELP hopes the promise of a friendlier, more polished game will renew the interest of fans who never finished playing MM9. The future of the franchise, although currently quite bleak, will be nonexistent without a viable fanbase.
TELP is group of Might & Magic fans which formed in 1999 from the community of Redneck's MM6 Tavern. It currently maintains several websites and message boards dedicated to the enjoyment and promotion M&M role-playing games. For more information on the patch, visit http://telp.org/mm9. The patch itself is smaller than 500k, but seems to work with the US version only. Interesting enough, that TELP also announces a patch 1.4 for june 2004... |
