Q: Is PBS a sailing simulator, similar to how WW2online is a WW2 sim? Do you have to actually learn how to sail a ship in order to sail the seas? For example, do I have to set my sails in accordance with the wind conditions? Is coastal navigation or celestial navigation important?

The basics of the sailing model are abstracted so that the average person can sail a ship, but we reward the skilled and knowledgeable sailer who understand the nuances of tacking, who can read the weather, and who understands the strengths and weaknesses of his ship. For example, while we don't have an interface that lets a sailor tie individual sails, our ships have their real world characteristics, so a ketch, for example, sails better with the wind astern than larger, three-masted vessels.
