There is a preview of Neverwinter Nights over at PCGameplay. It includes some infobits from Trent Oster - like this one, and additional information:
Oster: "We don't want the end user worrying about particle burst-rates, worrying about self-illumination, worrying about lens flares – that's kind of a technical artist's job. We just let the end-user worry about laying down a dungeon and having fun running around in it."
To give you some idea of the power of the tool, modules can stretch to 32 tiles by 32 tiles – four times the size of the maps in Baldur's Gate. What's more, if you're creating a module to be played online it's possible to place a portal at the end of your dungeon leading to another 32 by 32 module on someone else's machine. Oh, and like the game itself, the toolset is totally 3D, enabling you to rotate your dungeon and zoom in to examine every nook and cranny before allowing 64 of your rampaging friends to undo all of your good work. |
