Warcraft.org has a beta report from the ongoing Warcraft 3 beta, presented as an interview with someone in the program. Here are two questions:
Q #12: What's your opinion on upkeep? Have your first games gotten to the point where High Upkeep becomes an issue? Do you think it's a good idea overall?

I think its a great idea. War3 battles were meant to be small, not huge battles with tons of units. The high upkeep is a signal to you that you need to start attacking and either win, or lose some units. Its kind of nice cause when you hit high up, a little message fades in say "High Upkeep" and lets you know its time to start moving. It helps prevent people from just building up alot of units and then thinking they can crush you, and keep the units coming. Its not good to stay in high upkeep, usually i am in low or none, and so far it has not been an issue and has i think been very well implemented.

Q #13: What's your favorite unit so far? Race? What race did you play first?

Hmmm, well i have always liked the Humans from Warcraft II, and so the first race i played was the humans. Right now i really like the mountain king, but i have yet to try the orcs, so it may change.
