ArenaNet's 'Guild Wars' has been previewed at PC.IGN. Here's a taste:Back in the day (or more accurately the day of March 7, 2000), three ex-Blizzard employees splintered off to create their own niche in the gaming world called Triforge. The company went on to begin building their next big thing, an MMO that would break new ground and create the kind of excitement and buzz that games like Diablo II did for them back at their former company. Triforge isn't Triforge anymore, Triforge is now ArenaNet, but the game is well into development and is due out later this year. It's still an MMO and it's still an RPG, but it's unlike any other MMORPG that has been released or we know anything about right now for a couple of reasons. First, Guild Wars (that's the name of the game) takes the idea of MMOs and moves it in a different direction, in a more skill based, team oriented approach with less traveling and little downtime. Second, its complex technical wizardry allows for the game to stream to players. Third, and probably most importantly to many of you, there will be no monthly fee to play it. Sound good? We thought it would. |
