MGON did an interview with Producer Mike Wallis about Eve - The second Genesis, another nice looking upcoming futuristic MMORPG. Here's a snippet:
MGON: Eve-Online seems to be more aimed at a warring, PK (Player Killer) type universe, is this definitely the case and will there be an allowance for those wishing to just explore and interact without the worry of being PK’d? After all there are many perils in space other than fellow players.

Mike Wallis: EVE can be whatever players make of it. If players wish to get involved with PK’ing, they may certainly do so. However, many of the starting systems and surrounding areas are high security zones, meaning they are patrolled by police and military units whose aim is to keep the peace. Within those areas players can be confident of traveling in relative safety, as any attack on an innocent player would surely alert the local police & militia to the player’s defense. But as the players move further and further out from these civilized systems, space becomes less protected and consequently more lawless. It is out here, in the fringe & unexplored systems, where we expect all sorts of scum and villainy to reside. Not that there’s anything wrong with that!
