Today in the last part of the play session of A Tale in the Desert, Teppy (aka Pharaoh) announce the specifics for the release of the game. You could only hear this announcement if you were able to build a glass obelisk or stood close enough to one. Here is what our ingame reporter Val came back with:Today at 11 am EST in Beta #3 of A Tale in the Desert a special announcement was made at each of the special glass obelisks that players had made for this event. This is what was announced:
Pharaoh: Thanks to all who are gathered here, and have built these Glass Obelisks
This is more Teppy talking than Pharaoh
Almost 2 years ago, we first announced A Tale in the Desert
And some of you here today, were around for the very first public test...
Barring last night's embarrassing crash...
The server has been pretty stable for a while...
And I've heard that thought echoed by many of you
The client too is almost at the stability level we're looking for...
And the script code, while still with some bugs, especially on more advanced techs...
Is in pretty good shape.
I have made a change to testing procedures that should hopefully make new content more bug-proof when first released.
So, the time has come to announce A Tale in the Desert's release.
On February 15, 2003 we will turn the servers on for the first telling of A Tale in the Desert
Beta #3 will go on for about 3 more weeks.
We're going to run the servers 24/7 starting next weekend
And that will go on for about 2 weeks.
We'll then have a bit of downtime, where we'll repeatedly start the servers from a clean slate.
And you're all invited to help with that.
Pricing...
ATITD will be $13.95/month, with no initial charge (no box)...
And we'll be self-publishing...
You'll all have access to us, just as you do now. When you write to pharaoh@egenesis.com...
It will still go to my personal mailbox.
And when there is a bug, it will be me or Josh who figures out what's going on and fixes it...
But if something serious goes wrong like a server crash...
You'll still have my personal phone number:
1-***-***-****
I'm happy to say it hasn't rung yet. :)
So that's the big announcement.
We'll be finishing up sound the next couple weeks...
Releasing more content...
And nailing as many small bugs as possible.
Thanks for helping to build these obelisks...
And for gathering to hear our plans, and most importantly...
Thanks for all the help and patience during these beta tests.
Server will be up for another 24+ hours... Pharaoh out.
Needless to say, my eyes nearly popped out of my head when Teppy posted his personal phone number. (I omitted it from this text though.) I really think this game will be a success due to the great care the developers have put into it and still put into it. If you haven't tried A Tale in the Desert, then do so now!
