How about... ahem... riders?
How come Lara Croft can jump, crawl, swim, ride various devices, and for NWN all of these features consist a problem worthy of kilometers of posts?
That's not an unreasonable question, and it's been addressed before in other posts, but I'll respond here quickly since you asked nicely.
The problem is quite simple if you stop and think about it for a moment.
The problem is not a technological one. Obviously there are plenty of games out there that map out a fully-3D world where one can fly, climb, jump and run amok to one's heart's content. The difference is that in those game that is largely the point. Lara Croft climbs and jumps because if she didn't there wouldn't be much of a game, would there? Even going to a MMORPG like, say, City of Heroes or World of Warcraft... the "massive" part of those games is a vital element. If they didn't have some means of speeding up transport or of having you cover those vast areas where they fit all the players into, it would be more than just a missing thematical element.
