AC 2 Review at Gamespy

A review of Asheron's Call 2 has been posted at Gamespy today. Their rating of 74% is amongst the lower ones we have seen so far, and their summary gives a hint as to why:
Asheron's Call 2 offers a great deal to both new players and hardcore fans of the genre, particularly in regards to the graphics. Still, underneath a gorgeous exterior, the core gameplay is still an "XP treadmill" who's main reward is levelling up at the end of a hard day's killin'. In this respect, AC2 isn't really adding anything new. It's somewhat enjoyable if you can get together with some friends, and hardcore players who are satisfied simply walking around a map killing things will enjoy the quick pace of the simplified combat. But to this reviewer, such gameplay is a pretty shallow experience.

It's also important to point out that users who have Win2000 will not be able to install the game without downloading and installing an XML parser from Microsoft first.

With more content on the way and an already large fan base, Asheron's Call 2 may yet blossom into a special game. But if you're looking for something new that's going to keep you up day and night, month after month, you'll want to wait on this one.
