FileFront has posted an interview with Troika's Leonard Boyarsky and although dated tomorrow, it appears to have been conducted before Bloodlines shipped:Q: Troika has a history in making totally badass RPG’s. What made the company decide to work on a completely different genre like an FPS?
A: First off, I’d like to thank you for classifying our games as “totally badass”. Somehow, that seems to have a lot more weight to me than “critically acclaimed”. It’s great to know that that people have so much passion about our RPGs.
I wouldn’t call Bloodlines a completely different genre, or (shudder) an FPS. As to why we decided to make an RPG with first/third-person views rather than isometric, it was an organic decision, really. As soon as Valve showed us their engine, visions of an intense, action oriented (but true) RPG began to overtake our consciousness. From there, it took on a life of its own. |
