One more favorable review of Etherlords was put up yesterday at GamePen. The strategy/RPG hybrid scored 4 out of 5 stars. Here's something about the different possibilities how to play the game:
There are two campaigns, and a bunch of scenario maps that can be done in multiplayer, but shockingly, no scenario editor was included. This is exacerbated by the fact there is only one extra-large map. One. Meaning, if you want a huge, slam-bang game with a group of friends over a LAN or GameSpy Arcade, there's only one map to be had. Even worse, there's no random map function, either. There is some buzz Fishtank will release an editor, but the lack of any sort of editor is a serious blow.
On the other hand, there is a Single Duel mode, which is essentially playing a single battle. More than most games, this is fun because you can create your own "decks" (with limitations per level on what you can include) and battle the computer or a friend as if you were playing a game of Magic: the Gathering. The only fault is that, again, there is only single "color" decks, severely restricting the variety of decks to create. |
