A reasonably detailed preview of Ion Storm's 'Thief: Deadly Shadows' can be found at Adrenaline Vault:Third in the series of stealth-oriented games that began with Thief: The Dark Project, Dark Shadows places you once again in the nimble boots of Garret, an infamous and highly skilled footpad extraordinaire who plies his trade in a place known only as The City. Gameplay is organized around sneaking, rather than brute force. If Doom is a simulation of the lifestyle of a hardened space marine, charging around with guns blazing, cutting down hell-spawn at every turn, Deadly Shadows is its polar opposite - a representation of the day-to-day (or rather, night-to-night) adventures of the classic fantasy rogue. You get to pick locks and pockets, backstab, hide in shadows, and generally creep around stealing things. The most difficult and impressive way to complete a mission is to come out with the loot you went in for without anyone ever suspecting you were there. |
