RPG Vault has posted the first part of an interview they've held with 3D People and International Hobo about their fantasy RPG 'Kult: Heretic Kingdoms'.Jonric: In overview, what kind of game will Kult: Heretic Kingdoms be? In terms of the concept and high-level design, what are your primary emphases and what type of gameplay experience are you creating?
Peter Nagy: Kult: Heretic Kingdoms is a single player isometric 3D RPG for the PC. We want players to feel compelled to play our game, and to this end, have tried to create as immersive a world as possible, via graphics, gameplay mechanics and story. We wanted a game filled with action, strategy and mystery, and we believe we have achieved this goal.
Richard Boon: Kult: Heretic Kingdoms is similar in style to such games as Diablo, Baldur's Gate, Divine Divinity and Sacred in that it is a mouse-driven isometric RPG with plenty of equipment and treasure to find, monsters to kill, characters to talk to and a heap of character customizability. In reviewing the competition, we saw great games, but games without particularly strong stories. The world of Kult - the titular Heretic Kingdoms - has a very rich backstory, and we took great care throughout the process of design and development to maintain a sense of logic within the world.
Chris Bateman: The play mechanics are a little different to what players have seen before. We were challenged with the task of creating a game system that provided RPG play that players enjoyed, but did it in a logical way. We have all new systems for skills, equipment, healing, monster respawning... there's a lot going on, but with a single goal, that of creating an immersive experience for the player. |
