On the Divinity forums, Lar had to say the following about the demo:
Well, it's official - we just sent the last patch to the engine for the German and English versions of the demo to CDV. I can't tell you any exact dates on when it will be available to you, but I believe it will be pretty soon. Honestly can't wait for you to get it and tell us what you think. The demo, as you might remember, is huge , both in the gameplay it offers and in the size it'll take on your HDD's. An average player will need around 5 hours to finish the demo, whereas a player who checks everything out will need at least 8 to 10 hours. Here are some stats about the demo:
    Contains the intro
Contains voice (175 voice recordings to be exact)
Contains 5 music pieces as well as 6 ambient tracks
    One player character (male warrior)
    Contains 15 skills
Contains enough quests/monsters to allow you to reach the equivalent of level 10
Contains one village, the forest around it, and a massive dungeon consisting of 5 levels.

The really nice part of it is that it's about 5% of the total game.

And trust me when he says huge he means HUGE :-)
