In RPG Vault's Dragon Empires Q&A #36, Peter Tyson answers more questions about Codesmaster's MMORPG project:Jonric: How much emphasis are you putting on having the game economy be player-driven? And on the other hand, what kinds of safeguards, restrictions et al will be in place to prevent major imbalances if and when thing don't go as you expect?
Peter Tyson: A lot of emphasis, as we believe it adds to the world and gives players a great deal more control and, in a way, freedom. In worlds where the economy is static, dominated by NPCs and largely unchanging, the players have no influence and you can feel irrelevant to the game world. In Dragon Empires, players will have influence as a skilful manufacturer will draw players to them, and high-efficiency cities will draw manufacturers in. What's more, economic warfare to undermine a city's ranking is possible and a viable form of conflict in the game. |
