Rick Drakan, designer for City of Heroes, was partner in an interview at Gamespy. Here's a little something:
GameSpy: Will combat be turn-based or twitchy?
Rick Dakan: I'm going to split the difference and say somewhere in-between those two options. The game is not a twitched-based game. Your first-person shooter skills do not determine whether or not you hit with your attacks, the role of the digital dice do. But there are not turns, either. Actions take time to execute, and as soon as they're done (a matter of a second or two), you can do something else. There's a lot of movement in our combat, a lot of maneuvering for position, and using the game environment to your advantage. We've tried hard to get away from the standard walk up, turn on your attack, and wait and watch as the battle plays itself out. |
